Totally Exhausted – Rage Exhaust Installation

An exhausts, all cars need them.  This is the super short version cos I’m really tired.  My good friend Ron from Total Performance has owed me an exhaust for some website design work I did way back when.  Anyways I never had anything to put it on till now.  Seeing as the Nugget is really just a mini EVO Ron supplied me a 3″ bolt on Rage system to suit an EVO 2.  Bam went about taking some length out of the system to make it fit.  The result, an exhaust and a car that no longer sounds like a tractor.  Super happy.

My car with the exhaust laid out waiting to be installed.
New Rage exhaust system
Bam cuts exhaust to appropriate length.
Welder Bam joins the exhaust back up after removing a 2″ section

Didn't he do well....no? Well it's after work and he had had a few beers.

You need a hole for the 02 bung. Check it out a drill with lasers!

Starting the Nugget & subsequent fuel pump replacement

On Wednesday night Bam and Chris stayed late at the workshop to give me a hand with the Nugget.  The aim of the evening was to get the car running, it’s been started before, about 12months ago.

**Turn the key** the starter tried to start the engine with no luck.  Let the problem solving being.

Bam diagnosed the problem as fuel pump related.  After a bit more investigation Bam found the pump was getting power meaning one thing. The pump was poked. After pulling the pump out of the tank it became apparent why, glorious gold rust.  I think I know the reason why the tank got so rusty, before I bought the car it was left in a shed for who knows how long with hardly any fuel, this has caused the fuel pump, cage, and tank to get very rusty.

Ginger on your head or in your fuel tank. It's never OK!

EVO 9 Fuel Pump, can you even call that an upgrade?

I think I know why my fuel level sender isn't working

Bam installs the fuel pump cage.

After that it started first time, to easy! Here is a video.

While Bam was doing some technical work, I installed my rear seats and seat belt.

Things I learnt

  • Long term storage of your car isn’t good for it.  Take the correct precations
  • A Walbro 500hp fuel pump will plug straight into the factory Mitsubishi fuel pump wiring
